    Hi,

With a block build single leaf on flat, and the windows sitting outside the outer edge of the block, as in not supported by the block at all, only on brackets.

External insulation would be used, likely ... eps polystyrene.

What detail would be used regards the damp proofing etc? thanks :)

Your external wall insulation supplier should be giving you construction details to follow in order to comply with their guarantee conditions.

Having said that the Swedish test institute SP carried out an extensive study of external wall insulation and concluded that even manufacturer's details are not sufficiently robust in many details.

You can find the report here:

    www-v2.sp.se/publ/ViewDocument.aspx?RapportId=10130

It is a large pdf so be warned!

Unfortunately most of the report is in Swedish but there is a fairly comprehensive summary at the beginning in English. The rest you will have to look at the drawings and pictures and copy and paste into Google translate.

The focus of the report is primarily on timber frame buildings with EWI but the key areas of failure apply just as well to EWI over block.

Personally speaking I would go for a wide cavity over EWI every time but if you are in a situation where you have to build with EWI be sure you choose highly competent installers who won't cut corners are who use the best detailing available.
