    Jeez...
now they want 80euro for a windows reinstall.

    That all? :D

I mean, the price is fair enough, if they do backup and restore your personal data, which can be quite time consuming.

Yes, do it yourself or restore the laptop to factory default from the recovery partition. Either way, backup your files first as they'll be wiped in the process.

What was it doing or not doing before you sent it into them?

These diagnostics? what were they and what was the result of them?

To be honest, this sounds a bit expensive to me, using your own Operation system and I would guess re installing it from the recovery partition is not what you call a labour intensive job. Your recovery partition already has a script on it to load the correct drivers and configuration the system automatically during the re install. The process is usually over in less than an hour with little or no human intervention needed after the first minute or so. A shop will back up your disk externally and this is automated too, or at least should be. The manufacturer of you laptop makes this process as easy as possible to allow the average user to be able to do it without hassal.

Now, doing a clean install is a bit trickier, well, time consuming anyways. your current files and folders have to be backed up to an external device, your hard disk is then formatted, your operating system is then re installed on your hard drive, your drivers updated and you backed up files reloaded onto the disk. Most of the operation is again automated, with intervention now and again to keep things going.

Of course your paying for time and your also paying for knowledge but first impressions of this to me would suggest that it is on the expensive side of things for this operation.

people are worse taking laptops and the like to 'repair' shops like this.

ask anyone here and we will tell you how to 'reinstall' windows or 'backup' data and it wont cost you 100euro
