I'm a qualified primary school teacher. However I would love (like many others it seems) to study educational psychology in the future, either with UCD or Queens Belfast. I've tried my best to research part-time psychology courses and so far I've failed to come up with any great result. I'm wondering does anybody out there have any opinions regarding the H.Dip psychology with DBS?! I attended their open evening last week and was impressed with what they had to offer, the course is now PSI accredited. However I feel that because I will only have studied part-time for 2 years it will damage my chances of acceptance into an educational psychology masters. I have heard that many of those studying in UCD have completed the BA with OU. In short which is better DBS Hdip or OU psychology degree? OR is there any others out there that I haven't heard of yet?! Any advice would be much appreciated!

hiya, im a psychology grad, going on what colleagues have experienced i dont believe it will go against you whether u studied for it full or part time, if anything it shows great committment if you study part time if your combining it with work/other studies. excellent time management skills also. ive studied with ou also in the past, expensive and you have to be very organised, but its great for anyone like me who cant fit in usual lectures etc into ther lifestyle. hope this helps:)

    Hi,

I have literally just finished the hdip in DBS and overall I found it a really good course. In total its two days a week, two classes each day so its not overly time consuming. I worked while completing it. I think the majority of the hdip courses are compressed into two days so you could really say they are all part time?! I dont think that it would go against you when applying for masters. The part time hdip in DBS is exact same hours as the full time, the only difference is the full time is during the day.

To be honest I wouldnt know a lot personally about the OU psychology course, but the only thing is will you not be looking at three years instead of two years for the hdip??

Just be prepared, and I am sure you have heard this numerous times...psychology is a long long road! The amount of experience required is endless, so be prepared to put a lot of time into voluntary/paid experience. I also do know that the organisational psychology masters is very competitive..i know this personally from speaking to the head of the course, but as you are a primary school teacher this will definitely help with your chances.

Hopefully that helps, and best luck with whatever course you choose.
