Third-Party File Recovery Softwares query

N/B: I am not sure whether this is the right subforum to post this thread in. Mods, if it's in the wrong place, please do not hesitate to move this thread to an appropriate subforum.

Yesterday I have tried to upload a lot of photographs from my Samsung ST-91 camera onto my laptop. When I tried to upload them I got a message saying that the disk (Micro SD card) is corrupted and it was recommended that I 'Scan and Fix' the disk. After that was finished I went to check the photos in the disk. All gone.

So now I am trying to recover the lost files. Has anyone of you use any of those third-party file recovery softwares? I am wary to install any of them because I don't want to fcuk up my laptop.

Which are the ones that are free but recommended? (E.g great reviews). Thank you very much for your help.

    Recuva
If you can get your hands on The @ctive boot disk, it has file recovery software that is very good.

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted.

    (free & open source)

@demanufactured: I have tried Recuva but only managed to recover files in .chk format.

@Torqay: Tried installing Photorec but for some reason my antivirus software recognised it as a threat (Malware)

Any help would be most welcome.

TestDisk/PhotoRec certainly isn't malware. Probably a false positive.

I managed to retrieve all my photos thanks to ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery) image recovery software, the free demo version. I am very pleased!

Thank you so much for all your suggestions and assistance even though I've tried them and had not much of a success. Appreciate them.
