    Folks,

On a car brought in from the UK, if we only received the bottom portion of the V5C form and a photocopy of the full form, will that suffice??
We have a cert of export, invoice and all the other documentation required. I think I should have taken the full V5C from the dealer. Sh00t

    thanks

Dont think so, you need the full V5 document except for the small tear away bit at the bottom that the original owners sends to the DVLA to tell them the car is leaving the country.

From what ive heard, if you havent got the full roiginal V5 then be prepared to wait a month or two to get a replacement from the DVLA, unkless they have gotten quicker in the last few months.

Cert of export is acceptable in lieu of the V5C.

(The advice given above is also wrong in that the tear off export slip is ONLY for use by the registered owner if exporting personally. There is a laid down procedure that I can't be bother to repeat yet again.)

Corktina, thanks for that. Just checked - All we have is the tear away piece of the V5C/4 form. Its section 11. notification of permanent export and its signed by the dealer etc. Is that enough ?

    Thanks

You must keep the full registration cert except the piece which notifys the DVLA that the car is gone for Permanent Export. When I imported a car several years ago I made the mistake of filling up the new keeper details and instead had to wait 6 weeks for a Certificate of Permanent Export from the DVLA.

are you saying you dont have a Cert of Export after all?

The dealer should have handed you the V5C in full (including the tear off strip, although it wouldn't really matter if this was missing) and written to the DVLA to tell them the car had been exported.

You need EITHER a Cert of Export OR the full V5C to re-register the car.

again, wrong info. That Export slip is for use by the registered owner when exporting personally. In other cases perocedure is as I have outlined above.

Just checked and have the V5C/2 tear off piece and V5C/4 (11. Notification of permanent export) tear off piece - I mistook this for the cert of export.
Also have a photocopy of the full egistration cert. I guess I need to contact the dealer to get full cert of export or the full V5C form
    Cheers. B*llocks

If he has sent off the V5C I assume a cert of export will be issued to him IDC and it will delay you re-registering the vehicle. (You could try it on with the NCT and see if they willwear the photocopy, you never know!)

Something like this happened me a few years ago when I brought my car in from the UK. I filled out the V5C form as though I was living in the UK and keeping the car in UK (I didn't know any different). It didn't bother me too much at the time as I had another car on the road. Then I sold that car and no choice but to put the UK car on the road. I had it a couple of weeks at this stage.
I emailed the DVLA with all the info I had about the car, UK reg, Place I bought it, my own name and address as this was now on the V5C form sent to them. They emailed me back saying that it hadn't gone through their system yet and they would forward it to me as soon as it does. I brought this email and any other documentation I had to my local Revenue Office and they gave me a letter dated for 1 month saying I was waiting on documentation to come from the UK before I could get the car registered in Ireland. I had to keep this letter in the car incase I was stopped for having a UK reg on the car. As it happened it was about 6 weeks before the V5C form finally came through. I had to get a second letter for another month. Worked out well in the end as the VRT had decreased by the time I got the documentation through:).
Not sure if this will work for you but its what happened me anyway. I think you should email the DVLA and see when they expect to get the documentation processed. Then maybe ring your local Revenue office and see what procedure is after that. You will get alot of info here. Some will be correct and some not so correct so best thing to do is go straight to the horses mouth and then you can't go wrong. Just get everything in writing incase your pulled over for having UK plates on the car!

I've lost track of how many times this has been asked, and answered, here on boards. And the answer us still the same: yes, you need the V5C.

But, aside from that, what I can't get over is the amount of people that only ask AFTER they part with their money.

Does no one read anything, do any research BEFORE they spend their money anymore ?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I occasionally see UK car for sales at the UK auction web sites with no V5C.

I see a cert of export mentioned, who issues this?
If it comes from the DVLA, is this what takes 6 weeks?

    Will that suffice for registration?

    Tks
