Repair of acrylic bath

How can I repair a 3 inch crack in an acrylic/plastic bath. The crack is located on the side of the bath and I may be able to get at it from the outside/underside. A friend suggested a fibreglass patch would be strong enough and would look ok especially if the repair can be carried out on the external side of the bath.…

Other than a diy repair is there any company that will do this professionally. I could replace the bath entirely but it's in a very inaccesible position and would entail the removal of a lot of tiles and wood suports etc. Any advice at all would be most appreciated.
