BHP/PS and fuel consumption

    Hi all,

I had a car in mind. 1.4 L petrol engine 125 bhp/PS - today i went and looked at a model of that car after being told it was indeed 125bhp.

however a cartell report told me the car was not 125bhp but was 100bhp which is 75KW power output.

the car was spotlessly clean inside and out. in showroom condition with very good tyres all round. it's 4 years old.

i know it depends on types of journeys been done etc, but all things being equal would a car of 100bhp consume less fuel on average than a car of 125bhp?

or is it impossible to say?

far too many variables to draw that conclusion, the weight of the car and your driving style amongst other things, what car is it?

What car is it? Some sort of golf? There should be consumption figures on the likes of parkers for all variants.

More hp doesn't mean more fuel, things like gearing, weight etc are factors.

2008 SEAT Leon 1.4 Sport model. Kerb weight according to Wiki is 1,176kg to 1,375kg. without actually knowing i'd say the car i was in today was in the lower weight category.

the car is very smooth to drive, has genuine ( says cartell) low milage for it's age.

it's just that i'd prefer the 125bhp for a bit of extra umphh you know.

    Is there a 100hp 1.4 Leon?

The 125hp would be the turbo model.

yes the 125bhp is the turbo model.

i've never understood why the spec for a car advertised by a dealer or private will specify something like colour or number of doors but not bhp or Co2 emissions. it wouldn't take that much effort to do so.

Given that most dealers can't get the number of doors or the colour right on the ad, I wouldn't trust any hp or CO2 figures they'd quote either.
