I think it's either Jupiter or Venus.

I was wondering this as well. I see two of them. One is directly under the other.

I saw them here in Clare too, facing north west isn't it?

It's Venus, with Jupiter directly underneath (reddish and smaller).

Don't think I've ever seen Venus this bright. Thought to myself it had to be a plane at first.

Yes, Venus is the brighter and Jupiter is the smaller less bright one!

You can also see mars quite clearly tonight too, if u have an iPhone or smart phone, download an app called the night sky - its free and absolutely brilliant!

Not just in Cork but all over the country.

    Beautiful sight. Makes you think.

    The vastness of space.

Sorry Chuck. I can now reveal that Cork is NOT the centre of the universe! Please sit down while this truth is absorbed.

Please calm down. Just remember Dublin is not the centre of the universe either. No it's just over the border in Kildare.

    But it's been covered up!

Venus will be at its brightest in mid April. I couldn't believe how bright it was tonight.
    The sauce pan?

The night skies the last few weeks have been incredible, even in light polluted suburban Dublin. I went out earlier and took a few snaps of Venus/Jupiter and Mars. I was delighted to see the Pleiades clearly visible in my Venus/Jupiter pics. I was using a 7 year old Nikon digital but with the right ISO and on a tripod with timer the results were satisfactory.

Betelgeuse was also distinctly reddish-orange last night.
