Noticing the number of classics for sale on Done Deal etc, I'm wondering if the sellers are dissolusioned by what they bought, or are they moving on to another classic ?

I'd say sellers are stuck for money, so the toys are for sale.

Are these classics better value in general to buy here or is it cheaper to buy in the uk?

Depends on the car a lot of muck came over here from the UK that wouldn't pass an mot but as we didnt test them here they were fine but there is a lot of good quality cars being shipped abroad for silly money at the minute, I don't mind when it's cars coming back from where they came from but it is sad to see the Irish ones go.

When you say good quality cars being shipped abroad at the moment , out of interest , what models ? Any examples in particular you have first hand experience of?

I know of a studebaker land cruiser which has gone to Australlia and a rolls royce corniche which has gone to the UK recently, while these cars are not original Irish in fairness I think it's still sad to see them go!

its difficult to say really as regards quality classics on the open market,
i know of 3 classic jaguars in hibernation at the present and the owner
is in a very tight spot at the moment, would he sell??maybe..my point
being that alot of classics that the current owners would like to get rid
of arent nessesarily out there on the open market or even advertised!!
must ask nxt time i see him!!:D

Most classics have lost cq. 40% of their value in the last few years. Great time to buy for anyone that has any money left! :(

40% and more in some cases but in all fairness prices have rocketed up in the early part of the boom years so I'd suppose they are getting back to more realistic levels, I remember iirc about 2000 or 2001 that there was a pontiac firebird for sale in Arklow for about IR£2000, a couple of years ago that car would have been advertised for 6 or 7 times that ammount now I could be wrong but I'd say that you'd pick one up for E5000 today. The same could be said about escorts and toyota twin cams, huge money was passed around on these and imo they were never really worth it.

I buy a good few classic cars in the U.K. I never buy one without an recent M.O.T. and even then I usually get another New M.O.T. in case the first one was dodgy, which can still happen, but it has been tightened up a lot in recent years. If there is a problem with a car, it is better get it sorted out there, before you head for the ferry. I suppose the big advantage in buying in the U.k. the large selection of cars over 30 Years old that are for sale, but it still a " Buyers Beware" sitution. If someone is selling a car without a M.O.T. it is usually because it will NOT paass or it has already failed. There is still good value there, but you need to factor in the cost of your Flight over, Hotel, Food, Transport , Fuel, Ferry, any work that needs to be done to the car. I.E. Last week I bought a 280 SE, which had been garaged for 6 years, had it serviced, M.O.T.,Had to gat 4 New 205/70X14 Tyres, becaause the old ones were like new, but were perished. Total cost £615. Convert all this cost into Euro, you can add another 20%. So it all adds up. I hope this information is usefull to BBSRS

A lot of the stuff on DoneDeal has UK regs - buyers shocked by Revenue's valuations and getting shut of them?, or 'dealers' trying to make a few bob ?

In my case I actually bought a yoke here with UK plates ( left behind by chap who decided to fly on to Spain and left it to be sold by his brother ) but couldn't get a straight answer from Revenue re duty so selling it on 'For Export'
Revenue are their own worst enemies - if they had a transparent system then people might import more stuff ?

Capri, what is the " Yoke", sounds as if it might be of interest to me?

according to www.carandclassic.co.uk two resident Aston martins,a DB6 and a DB5 have found new homes elsewhere,i will admit that potential
buyers for these type of cars are scarce here now but beyond our shores
markets are still lookin for stuff like that,i wonder did any Irish investors
ever speculate in classics as opposed to property during our boom???;)
