Query on replacement MTB Sun Ringle XMB Freehub - Mk1 or Mk2

    Hi all,
Had my rear wheel hub fail on me this weekend - Cube Ltd Race 2011 fitted with Sun Ringle Ryde XMB wheelset... decent wheels but plenty of problems with the hubs as I've discovered...
Anyway replacement parts available, but wondering if anyone can advise if I should be looking at the Mk1 or Mk 2 free-hub?
What's the difference between them? Will either do? Is the Mk2 a better option (fixed problem) than the Mk1?

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=54489 ???
    or
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=54490 ???

Will be needing new axle too... as I damaged threads using a vice-grips when trying to remove the nut on other side... am just going to source the parts and leave in capable hands of the LBS I think... :o

    Thanks a million!
    A

    Hi,

i bought a Cube AMS 100 pro mountain bike about 4 weeks ago, i am also having major problems with my hub.

I rang CRC where i bought it in Belfast and they have ordered me a shimano rear hub free of charge.

they said people are having alot of trouble with the sun ringle hubs and they are upgrading mine to a shimano free of charge.

How old is your bike? is it under warranty?

Cheers - I managed to knock out the axle and see that it's the Mk 2 with cartridge bearings (Mk 1 has loose ball bearings)... Whole hub dirty and bone dry so flushed it out, dried and packed with grease... Sorted out the damaged threads with sandpaper and managed to get the nut back on so put all back together and will give it a test run tomorrow, will see if any improvement!

Decent of CRC to sort out yours with decent hubs through warranty, mine's 10 months old - have emailed Cube and calling to the LBS this week...

    Hi all!, Same problem.
How did you manage to knock out the axle?
I do not understand how to disassemble the hub and the freewheel body
    Thank you.

Still haven't fully sorted mine... have sourced a replacement hub, axle and bearings but not installed them yet, am still limping along, just stripping down the hub every few rides, packing with grease and tightening all back up again... sounds horrendous, but getting by... completed the Lough Derg race last weekend with no issues...

    I'm not able to fully break down the hub / free-wheel either, I get as far as;
    1. remove rear wheel
    2. remove cassette (chip whip & shimano lock-ring tool needed here)
    3. grip hex nut on drive-side and remove opposite SunRingle nut (carefully, as the anodising is delicate - wrap yer spanner / nut in masking tape)
    4. Now the axle & free-hub body is fully exposed
    5. Tap the non-drive side of axle with rubber mallet to loosen axle, and slide it out of the free-hub body.
    6. Axle doesn't slide out all the way, but leaves enough of a gap to clean and pack with grease.
    7. My current cartridge bearings look & turn ok, but the free-hub is very loose on the wheel hub... not much further I can do, so I just replace everything and tighten back up, ok for another couple of rides.

Couple of people mentioned hidden allen key slots, but I've never been able to find them, or undo anything further...

Bit of a pain in the ass, but will limp along until it's truely f*cked, then get the lbs to fit the replacement parts, and when they inevitably fail will get a new set of decent wheels / hubs...

Really annoying as the SunRingle wheels themselves are great - light, strong, still true and no movement in spokes etc... it's just the centre that is pure sh*te!!!!

    Thanks for the replies,
I finally removed only part of the freewheel body,
tomorrow i'll bring the bike tothe dealer, I think I'll change the hub which is still under warranty, but I do not want another one like this, I want one that is easier to remove!
(Sorry for my english! I'm italian! :o )
