Anyone know of any bird superstitions? Theres a blackbird hanging around my house the last couple of days. He keeps staring at me through the window and its starting to freak me out. I just walked into my bedroom there and he was sitting on the window sill looking in at me. He didnt even fly away when he saw me. He just kept looking :pac: wtf?

Its all good - it just means you have a worm caught in your hair. That or it's superglued to the window sill.

Was his beak pointed directly at you? Because if it was, he wasn't looking at you at all.

    Oh sorry, thats the crow.

the blackbird is a sign of great things, like wealth, love, happiness.

I keep on mixing those two up.

    Death is coming.

    From a Raven?

I know I always recite this in my head when I see a magpie's;)
One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret, Never to be told, Eight for a wish, Nine for a kiss Ten for a bird You must not miss(with a stone if it was up to me).

If a bird ****s on you it's good luck.

Unless it's an ostrich then it's bad luck.

I do know one where if you see a magpie, you should say, "hello, mr magpie" otherwise you'll get bad luck. However you gotta be careful and say it other your breath otherwise you'll look like a nutter xD

i found this on the web

If this bird makes a nest on your roof, this is said to be a traditional sign of good luck. In fact most people believed that if this bird nests anywhere near the house it a positive sign. Seeing the sight of two together is unusual and a sign of good luck as the blackbird is very territorial.

thats unusual. there were two blackbirds sitting side by side on friday looking at me through the window. the same guy i think

Oh and btw we've nursed a blackbird through the winter(flew into our window for some reason), he's now courting a lovely wee wummin blackbird - he's even brought her to the back door for formal introductions! He loves to woo her in the middle of the night - lovely birdsong and seems like he's doing it on tip toes! Love our Eug(short for Eugene - he just looks like one) we do!!!;)

A magpie is always at the back of my house, it's woken me a fair few times, tapping on the window, even though there us nothing shiny to attract it, sometimes it will sit on the extension roof and just chill out, I call her Maggie, it's always there, but as I have a parrot she's always copying them singing and if she's out the back the birds hover around whistling to her, Maggie in particular sits on the fence beside the parrot and they have a chat..

OP is your raven, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door -
    Only this, and nothing more."

If a bird puts her hands down your pants you're probably getting the ride.

if one bird flies into your house... its meant to be a sign of death....

shut down your windows and doors!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,137 ✭✭✭44leto

Its a sign of F/all just a bird has decided to use your window ledge as a perch.

My best advice for you is to enjoy it.

It is common belief that if you raid a birds nest and drop kick their eggs, your shoes will be ruined
