Irish Obsession with British Soccer - Social Implications?

Although I feel sorry for that footballer who collapsed in England yesterday and I hope he recovers, I must say I am simply astounded at how many Irish people think this is a major event in their lives.

There is something profoundly broken with the modern Irish psyche on many levels . VERY easily controlled by mass media and hype. More inclined to care about celebs and sports stars than their own neighbours, and very easily whipped up into a frenzy over nothing - while being completely apathetic to things that are important.

The obsession with British football in Ireland (including Celtic) is deeply connected to alchohol abuse and more and more I suspect fetal alchohol syndrome. I often see pregnant Irish women in pubs wearing British soccer jersies while the SKY sports TV monitor is blasting at them.

What damage is this doing to their unborn children? Between the booze and sonic bombardment of the feotus with "What a Cracker!!!!" in a loud booming voice not to mention the neural damage caused to the mother by the booze and HDTV assult while the feotus is developing.

British soccer is the Bread and Circus distraction used in this country to keep the sheeple drunk and stupid. Look at how many of our shifty excrement politicians "love" some or other British club.

These British soccer fans in Ireland and the publicians who cater to them also destoryed our unique pubs and turned them into noisy hellholes.

I be quiet honest, I have absolutely no idea what your point is, after what you just wrote OP.

It's the life of a young man that hangs in the balance not an obsession with English football. If you can't see that you should hide away from normal people.

The rest of your post is just drivel.
