Acer Aspire microphone problem. (Not a driver or disabled issue)

Facts; Acer Aspire 5741 series, Windows 7 Enterprise, and not in warranty.

Hey all, I've been wrecking my head all night trying to figure out the issue. I've tried everything. The correct device is enabled, it's not muted anywhere, and I've reinstalled the sound drivers yet it's still not recording. It was working fine about two months ago. I haven't used Skype/Teamspeak since until tonight and I didn't download any updates since that time either. In the client settings (Realtek AM/Skype/Teamspeak) it's almost as if the microphone doesn't exist. I just can't make any sense of it.

Can anyone offer anymore suggestions? I've tried Googling the issue but to no avail. :(

You did not disable the Realtek control panel (rhdcpl.exe) in the startup routine by any chance?

I didn't! It's not unchecked in system config and it's showing up in task manager. I'm really at a loss as to what this could be. I feel like it's something tiny and has blatently staring me in the face. :/

Does it work with an external microphone?

My external mic is broken but I'm trying my old external webcam and I can't seem to be able to select it for sound in Skype, it's able to capture image though. I'm missing the CD and I can't get the firmware from it's makers online so I can't fiddle about with it's sound settings. I'm actually in the middle of doing that now so I might still find the firmware somewhere. Fingers crossed!

A USB webcam would have its own audio device. No, I meant a normal microphone in the 3.5 mil plug on the same audio device as the internal mic.

Aye but if can't get the audio recording to work on the webcam that's saying something right?

I don't have anything else at the moment. Won't be in town until Wednesday or Thursday. Just wanted to go raiding at the weekend. Hence the urgency. :(

EDIT: I retract my first statement. I thought when I made a test call it was using the external webcam. It wasn't.

    Did ya fix this?

If not have you tried going into your recording devices and making sure its set as your default device?

    Goto:
Start> Control Panel> Sound> and click the 'recording' tab.

You may grab a Linix Live distro and test the internal microphone. If works, it's a problem with your installation, if it doesn't, well, chances are that it is banjaxxed then. ;)
