Try the HP Partner Locator and phone them. ;)

I tried that, Harvey Norman seems to be the only retailer, and they are firmly at the bottom end of the HP range.

If they're an official partner, they may order it for you?

The whole point is that you can try it out first before you decide to buy. Ordering it in specially doesn't really work for that use case.

Is anyone else aware of any high-end laptop retailers, or is it pretty much buy without getting your hands on it ?

Under current consumer protection legislation, you're perfectly entitled to return the purchase if you're not satisfied.

    Really ?

As far as I understand it unless there's a defect you have a very narrow window ( 7 days but it's completely at manufacturers discretion ) and then unless its broken it's yours. Now some may argue thats OK ( and it is ) but I'm not laying out that amount of wonga to prove a point - I want to know if I like it, and having a good look in a shop sounds reasonable to me.

But you're missing the point; If I wanted to order off the web ( and it looks like I will ) then so be it. Supporting the locals first and keep some jobs here but for what I want it may be right.

This is perfectly understandable and indeed very noble of you. ;)

However, if the locals do not cater for your needs and you're shopping abroad, who is to be blamed but the locals themselves.

In another thread we were talking about the new Samsung Ultrabook which is selling from little over 700 yoyos (incl 19% VAT) on the continent while our beloved locals in PC World asking for 1,000 Euro (incl 23% VAT) for the very same model. Makes you wonder whether you support the locals, the makers of QWERTY keyboards or unveiled greed. ;)
