Seen this on hukd.ie, not the full edition, but still a free OS

Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO files (.iso) are provided as an alternative to using Windows 8 Consumer Preview Setup. If you are on a PC running Windows and want to install the consumer preview on another partition, another PC, or a virtual machine, we recommend you download Windows 8 Consumer Preview Setup and use the built-in tools for converting an ISO image into installation media, such as a DVD or USB bootable flash drive

Been using it for a couple of weeks. ;);)

Takes some getting used to. :o:o

Running it on a 10" netbook. Speed is OK but some apps need higher resolution screen.

I wonder when it will expire & how I will get back to Windows 7 when it does?:confused:

This is not a free OS it's a Beta of the OS to allow people try it.

If you install this on your PC you will need to reinstall your Operating System in January 2013 - Existing or Windows 8 RTM.

More than likely it will need to be a clean reinstall meaning all your programs and data will be lost.

Do not install this unless you have a machine you don't care about or you're comfortable backing up your data and reinstalling your current version of Windows and apps don't even think of trying this.

Runs substantially cooler than a clean install of W7, on and off in the blink of an eye as well.

Using it 2 weeks as the main os on my laptop.

Running this on an old PC - doesn't recognise a USB wireless stick I'm trying to use.
Any ideas where you might download drivers ?

use the w7 or even vista driver.

While this post looks to have been written in English, I don't think it could have been as I don't understand a word of it...

The fish is a Betta Fish, to signify the beta status of the release.

While definitely not perfect, I could understand Erper perfectly.
Not sure why you think it's acceptable to have a pop at someone for whom english is obviously a second language.

I don't want to derail this thread any further however I would be glad for you to explain where I 'had a pop' and it is certainly not obvious that English is the poster's second language, particularly given the nature of Boards and many people's writing styles on here.

I would consider myself pretty clued in regarding Windows OS and his comment made no sense whatsoever.

anyway, without further explanation about what and how i said, ill continue to write about win8...

This might come in handy for anyone wanting to try out the Windows beta.

    [edit]
Or it may not - Windows 8 not on the list of supported OSs, though you never know.
Maybe try out the free trial first.

Oracle Virtual Box also supports Windows 8 Preview (and is free).
    https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
VirtualBox platform packages. The binaries are released under the terms of the GPL version 2.
    • VirtualBox 4.1.10 for Windows hosts x86/amd64
    • VirtualBox 4.1.10 for OS X hosts x86/amd64
    • VirtualBox 4.1.10 for Linux hosts
    • VirtualBox 4.1.10 for Solaris hosts x86/amd64

Alternatively (If you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty), there is always the dual-boot option.
    http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/dual-boot-windows-8-and-windows-7-side-by-side-1070657

Hope that helps - as I wouldn't recommend doing an upgrade from your current OS for - Just in case things do go wrong, it is a beta preview after all :)

I've an unused nettop running Linpus Linux.

Would Win8 Beta install over that OS without issue?

I'm not interested in dual-booting etc.

Just make sure the specs meet minimum requirements for Win8, the burn to DVD/USB and install.
