Garda Contempt

It would be wonderful indeed if we the Irish people had a police force that showed the same sort of outrage on behalf of ordinary citizens as it did for one of their own when a prisoner (convicted of manslaughter of a Guard) escaped from a low security prison during the week.

Had the victim not been a member of the Gardai, - we would not have heard a squeak about it from the Gardai. The Guards constantly harp on about putting their lives in danger on behalf of the public but from what I have observed the only danger they face is self imposed - as they joyride with impunity through city streets and country lanes. And let`s not forget they get well paid for these "services". In truth, of course the only real service we get is from the conscientious Garda reserve. Needless to say, full time Gardai have no truck with these kind, selfless, enthusiastic, heroic volunteers.

To add insult to injury, a senior member of the Gardai accused the Irish people of being "uncaring" about the unfortunate Roma teenager who was killed a couple of years back. It is we - the Irish people who pay the Gardai to find the killers of that teenager and it is the Gardai who have yet again failed to deliver. What have we, the Irish people done to warrant such contempt from those we pay to solve such crimes?

Could it be that the only reason this senior Garda highlighted this case was to cry crocodile tears in order to justify Garda outrage after the killer of one of their own had escaped? Food for thought - here is another thought Minister: Cut Garda Pay! We Can`t Afford It!

Castrate poor people so we won't have half as much crime in the long-term.

Have those Donegal Gardai who framed Mr. McBrearty and tried to frame others ever been brought to justice, or are they still suffering from a variety of non-specific and diffficult-to-diagnose illnesses that mean their appearance in the dock is continually postponed?

    Not in this forum, thanks.

They do put their lives in danger whether you think it or not. They have to deal with scum who quite often have no problem assaulting them or worse. Berate them all you wish, but at the end of the day when something goes wrong you'll be calling for their help.

Also, if you consider them well paid, you must have pretty low ambitions for success. No offence intended.

Which public servants will we attack without reason this week? Gardai it seems are fair game....

One minute they are criticised for not doing their jobs, the next minute they are criticised for doing it.

no links provided by the OP to back up his rant, why is this thread open?

Well the Gardaí are right on this one, How he was in that open prison in the first place is baffling as it wasn't too long ago he got sentenced, Normally you would only end up there towards the end of a sentence or if your inside for some harmless stuff. Most cops aren't too bad although some are but nobody deserves to be killed doing a job.

    Mod

OP seems to be a general rant about Gardai and a way to get a mention of Garda pay into it. Can't see much discussion on this.
