Both parts of Martin Scorsese's portrait of George are being shown back-to-back tonight on BBC4. The 3.5 hour long epic is a testament both to the breadth and depth of this "less talented" ex-Beatle's talent and Scorsese's feeling for the man who in my opinion comes out favourably in comparisons with any of his contemporaries in music, film-making, as a catalyst around whom change seemed to evolve, as a philanthropist or visionary and just an all-round decent guy; no-one ever said "no" to George.

Starts BBC4 9:00pm to 12:30am tonight; sorry about the short notice.
