Luas brings you to the St Patrick’s Festival 2012

Luas is pleased to announce that it is an official sponsor of the St Patrick’s Festival 2012. This year the festival takes place over 4 days, with events running from Friday 16th of March to Monday 19th of March.

The festival kicks off on Friday 16th of March with a free Festival Céilí from 4pm at St. Stephen’s Green. The nearest Luas stop to the Céilí event is St. Stephen’s Green on the green line, Abbey Street on the red line.

The world famous St Patrick’s Day parade is on Saturday March 17th and starts at Parnell Square at 12pm and travels down O’Connell St, Westmoreland St and Dame St before ending near St Patrick’s Cathedral. This year the theme of the parade is the wonder and curiosity of science. The nearest Luas stops to the parade route are Abbey St (to view from O’Connell Street area) and Four Courts (to view from the Christchurch area) on the red line and Stephen’s Green (to view from the College Green area) on the green line.

Please note that in order to accommodate the parade itself, red line services will terminate at Smithfield from 10.30am on March 17th and full service will resume after 2.30pm.

On Sunday March 18th, all the family can enjoy street performances, theatrics, Irish language events, workshops, fun zones, music, open air shows and more at the ‘Big Day Out’ event in Merrion Square from 12pm. The nearest Luas stops are George’s Dock on the red line and Stephen’s Green on the green line.

On Monday March 19th, people of all ages can take part in The Discovering Science Treasure Hunt - a free fun filled novel trail through a collection of Dublin city’s landmark buildings and venues each with their own unique science-related connection. To join in just register at Dublin City Hall from 10am and then plot your route, solve the clues and chase back to base at Dublin’s City Hall to finish and record your adventure.

For more information on all events happening as part of the St Patrick’s Festival, please see www.stpatricksfestival.ie
