Just got my OPF payment this week after waiting almost 9 months, am delighted to have it so relieved. The letter I got said that I was entitled to the payment since 23rd June and that I would recieve a cheque for the arrears. TBH I had written off ever getting the arrears with the way things are at the moment. has anyone any experience of getting arrears paid? any advice would be great thanks

Were you in receipt of jobseekers allowance or supplementary welfare allowance while you were waiting for OPF payment. If the answer is yes then any money paid out on these schemes will be re-paid from back money.

i was getting supplementary welfare but only for the last 2 months and at a rate of €60 per week. according to the letter i am entitled to a rate of €210 per week from 23rd June 2011. even counting in the money paid from supplementary welfare that is still a lot of money. i just can't see the government paying out such a big chunk really so i am not getting my hopes up. am in part time work so am ok now that the opf is through, though i am in arrears with esb and i had to take a credit union loan out to tide me over so it would be great to get something. am so happy to have it now but it was a really tough 9 months waiting

Well if you were only getting €60 pw for that last 2 months then if you claim is back dated to the date you applied you should get backdated money less the swa money. Have you told OPF section that you are in part time employment as this will also have a knock on affect on your payment depending on what your earnings from employment are? Or are the means being applied from your employment.

Just did a quick calculation there and it appears that there are means being applied to you claim. Are you also getting maintenance from the father of your child?(Actually ignore that question its none of my business) If not then means are being applied from employment. Good luck with the back money. Pay off your debts and bank the rest for a rainy day. God I sound like a real irish mammy.

yes they know i am working they deducted my earnings in the means test. my baby's dad isn't working and can't give me any maintenance but he does look after our baby 3 evenings a week and on saturdays so i can work. it told the social welfare this because i didn't want anything to happen where he was seen in my house and i hadn't told them we were in contact have never been on dole before thought it was best to be honest and it seems to have worked ok. thanks for your help, have you any idea how long they usually take to issue arrears? thanks again

I dont know how long the arrears take. They will have to do an inter scheme adjustment to pay back supplementary welfare. Give them a buzz to see if they can give you some idea.
