Toshiba Satellite Windows Vista Problems

Asked to see what I could do with a Toshiba Satellite L300. It had Vista installed but failed to boot beyond starting Windows. Never got to Desktop. Had the same problem a while back and was repaired by new installation of Vista by repair shop. Failed again after a month. Repair boot doesn't work and I fear it's corrupt. Tried installation of Windows XP, just to see if the laptop was OK and it seems to be. XP works perfectly but of course it can't be registered and will have to come off. Any suggestions as to what to try from here?

When you installed XP did you delete the Vista restore partition? The shop may have deleted it if not. You would need to get your hands on restore discs or (you best bet) purchasing windows 7
