Anyone seen a rim marked with a specific drive side before? Bought a new rim recently and it had a drive side sticker on it, but I wondered why.. no obvious difference between the sides.

On some rims the eyelets are offset slightly from the centre line to reduce the difference in spoke tension caused by dishing.

At a guess, asymmetrical rims are designed to equalize the unequal spoke tension caused by dishing on a rear wheel.

when i built my FFWD's the drive side was the side with the barcodes, but no differnece in the rims, they could be built any way round

Not if you equalise the spoke tension...

drive side should be whichever side you can read the label from. for aesthetic reasons, like having the tyre logo opposite the valve
