Commuting Longford to Dublin

    Hello,
I am new to this forum, and just looking for some information on a daily commute from Longford to Dublin by train!
I have just moved back to Ireland and secured a job in Dublin, and I will be commuting daily from Longford to Dublin Connolly. I have looked into getting my monthly/annual ticket on
www.taxsaver.ie and the fares are quite reasonable (I've been used to UK train prices).
Does anyone do this commute every day - I intend getting the 06.57 service from Longford, does this run to time etc?
    Any advice greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

It may be worth browsing/looking at the Rail Users Ireland website.

They have a forum discussing the various rail routes.

Hope this might be of help.

The Irish Rail website has a sort-of real time system (depending on signalling type in a given section) so you could have a sketch at that train from time to time in the run up to making a decision to keep an eye on On Time Performance.

The morning trains don't seem to be bad with regards to reliability, but in the evening peak trains go through phases of being delayed between Maynooth and Mullingar. There is a problem that 5 trains need to pass in 5 passing places - if one train is out of place, there can be chaos.

    Longford is a fair distance.

I used to travel quite often to Connolly first thing in the morning for work quite often. Between 5-6 am trains.

I only experienced the occasional delay but from my experience the early trains are quite reliable. There are 3 different times I think between 5-6 and one of the routes makes less tops than the other plus it's usually the nicer, 'newer' train.

Good luck with your commute and congratulations on your new job! :)
