I'd give Klatch a go if you're recommending. Coffee Collective as a back-up option perhaps.

AFAIK Klatch have some 'best espresso' awards in the US..

Does the roast favour filter brews as well? If so, I'd love to give it a shot.

That goes back to Heather Perry getting the highest marks for espresso at the 2007 WBC.

I highly doubt the coffee bears much resemblance 4 years on, and I would hope our standards have moved on since then.

The component description reads like something from 2007 - "Brazil Yellow Bourbon, Sumatra Lake Tawar, and Ethiopian Natural"

ps - that isn't to say their coffee isn't good - just don't buy too much into marketing hype.

I had copped it was 2007 but it's just curiosity with me.

This time last year we were looking at a roaster in Japan for a group buy - then the earthquake struck. Is it worth revisiting this?

Sorry I don't remember the name of the roaster (someone will). Also, did they lean more towards filter??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭jdburkedjburke

Yes i would be interested as well.

That was Maruyama Coffee. Sounded interesting!

Has any decision been made on who we are going with, I don't mind making some calls if it helps ....

I'd really like to go with Klatch - if we can make a decision, I don't mind doing the mailing. I've had a brief contact with them through Twitter and they seem quite responsive.

I do know a barista that's recently travelled back to Japan that I could ask for a favour and see if the other guys would be up for it too, without having to attempt translating my order in dodgy Japanese!

What have been the individual contributions towards a group buy in the past? My cut off point would be about 16 euro. If it's less than that, I'm definitely in. I like the idea of a japanese roaster, if I had to choose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

The Japanese option will definitely be more expensive than that.

The American one could work out around that. It really depends how many people chip in towards shipping and if we can get a bit of a discount (Which is nice, but doesn't usually happen). When we know who we're going with, we can put an initial sign up date, and approach the roastery saying "We have X amount of people ordering approx. Y amount of coffee", what are you willing to do to make our lives easy".

I think what Ceremony did last time, by setting up a seperate payment option, was great, as no one individual was left holding money or out money for the order.

Distinct and diverse; an abundance of fine flavors from the birthplace of coffee. This is the bowl of berries we come to expect from a clean Ethiopian Natural, composed of blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. However, this Ethiopian is like no other with its additional notes of bing cherries and the unexpected tropical fruit tones. Held together with notes of cherry vanilla and slight coco powder. This medium light roast provides a fragrance and aroma encumbered of floral, berries, and tropical fruits. A bright acidity among a creamy and juicy body.

^^Before I saw your reply, I came back here to change my mind. This sounds like a really interesting profile. My vote is now for Klatch, regardless of cost!

Am I to late to get in on this order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    Nope!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Regular Latte

I'll jump on board. I'm away for a few days so if an order goes ahead and I miss it, not to worry. But I'll try and check in.

Without wanting to be presumptious, Fajitas are you the contact for an order from Klatch?

    Thanks!

Should be back early May and I can sort out payment via paypal...cheers.
