Have you any pictures of it?

I amended the thread title, just to make it stand out.

Pics are definitely needed. As well as distinguishing features. Any dents, marks? Unusual wheels? Anything that'd make it stand out.

Bummer, was there not a chap threatening you months back as he reckoned you sold a dodgy car to him? Not saying anything but.... if I was investigating this ....

Nah that was my brother (bigneacy in post above) and we have both moved house since then

Unfortunately it has really got any distingishing marks...its the standard se spec with cloth interior and multi spoke alloys, parking sensors etc....has a small scuff on the driver side front corner and tiny dent on the right rear passenger side...

Guards reckon it was stolen to order do unlikely to get it back...

Thanks for keepinv an eye out

Did they 'fish' the keys from your hallway or what?

How are cars nowadays stolen without the keys ?

A frightening amount of BMWs being reported stolen on boards. If it's representative at all of the larger picture e90s will be getting loaded insurance wise to a degree surely.

Really feel for you OP, theyre nice cars and it can't be nice.

But this is the second thread in recent times about a BMW being stolen where keys have been visible (I'd assume these were visible if fished through the letter box).

People please hide your keys, leave them in a pocket, in a drawer, hang them behind a piece of furniture etc. DO NOT LEAVE THEM VISIBLE.

Or dont leave them near a letterbox. My keys are usually in my bedroom ready to go in the morning.

While I agree with not leaving them visible from outside I think keys should be easily accessible from just inside the front door. The last thing I'd want it a wife or kid being threatened for the keys of a replaceable object.

    Agree with this.

While it's a pain having a car taken it's one of the reasons I pay for insurance every year.

I'd rather not have to use my life insurance policy however....

Or me when I'm half asleep in the boxer shorts, I'd tackle most folk if I had to but not from my leaba.

Having had the experience when you wake up and hear them in the house it is VERY confusing.

Sadly I didn't have boxers on so couldn't leave the room for 60 precious seconds while I fell over trying to get something on

I suppose. Depends on the person. There is penny, the very loud german shepherd that sleeps in the hall that I'm sure any intruder would love to meet :D

    Sorry for your trouble OP.

My 520 was nicked about 6 weeks ago...came into the house and took the keys.

Easy to say hide the keys but I've 3 small kids in 2 bedrooms and it's not worth their lives over a bit of metal parked on the drive.

Hope you get it back or a decent payout from your insurance.

the main reason i said hide the keys was not to have them come in and spend ages looking for them etc, it was because a good few of the reported robberies lately have had the keys clearly visible.

that (an a guard who investigates some of these) tells me that they want a car, and look around for one who's keys are easily accessible so as to make it really easy for themselves. so maybe have them visible once your in the house but not from outside?

I have to agree; the idea of having someone go through your house to get the keys is awful, but I wouldnt go leaving them just inside the letter box where they can be easily fished out either. Bearing in mind most people leave their house keys on their car keys then its really not a smart idea to leave the keys too accessible. I would imagine most of these guys want as little hassle as possible, and not being able to just grab the keys from outside and run would put a lot of them off.
