Top marks to Bray Gárdaí

My 12-year old daughter had her bike stolen recently, from outside her school. She´s kind of particular about the kind of bike she rides, and so I bought a 40-year old BSA 20 for her, some years back (BSA twenties are essentially Raleigh 20´s, although I think here most were badged as Triumph 20´s). Lovely racing green, old school. Not worth a sausage financially. The school principal insisted on calling the guards (top marks to him too), and they came, interviewed my daughter, and some other students who saw the culprit cycling off up the road. I thought it was madness wasting gárda time with this, but they were on the ball, and within three hours I received a phone call to tell me that the bike, and the young culprit, were at the local station. All the stuff you read about the gárdaí not being interested, etc., is bunkum. If you deal straight with them, and give them accurate info, they´re keen to do the right thing. Daughter and bike are now re-united, although I´m not sure the 3-speed Sturmey Archer gears will last another decade.:)

I wouldn't validate or dismiss an assertion based on one isolated incident. Personally in my experience the guards couldnt care less about crime that is not serious and are very poor for following up or investigating.
