Annual Bus Travelwide (owner left country)

Hi, a friend of mine left their annual Dublin bus ticket behind when they left the country for a new life, they asked me if I knew anyone who wanted to use the ticket (4 months left on it) instead of cancelling it and trying to get refund etc...

Now, this is not AFTER HOURS so please no stupid comments! ;)

    Question is;

Can someone else (with card holders permission) use the card for travel instead of it lying around gathering dust??....

I'm fairly certain the T&Cs state non transferable as per other ticket types

The fact the card is vaild and not been reported stolen or missing would indicate the only way user would be caught is if an inspector go on the bus to check tickets?

The best that could be hoped for is a partial credit against buying another ticket. However, given that it involves two people, the transport companies, possibly two employers and the Revenue, I suspect it will be rather difficult.

Just as a side, what would the fine be for using the annual pass?

Standard Fare would apply, it's €50 and obviously the confiscation of the pass.

There would be about €340 coming back to your friend if a part refund was issued on the pass for 4 months; well worth his while claiming it back.

    Standard fare is €50.

Probably worth the risk for the 50euro, the chances of an inspector hoping on the bus is slim in my opinion....

We I've had three checks in as many weeks and witnessed plenty of standard fares being issued, so that's up to you.

I guess it depends on what time you are on the bus at...

I won't be using the ticket by the way, I was merely stating that the ticket could be used by anyone until the inspector jumps on, what's to stop false name/address been giving to the inspector anyway?

When they take your details they usually look for some form of ID and do a quick check with staff at base if needs be. Were you to be caught using a seasonal ticket then they definitely would be more in depth with their checks, given that there would be a good possibility that the ticket has been stolen.

So even if the person has giving permission for a (family member/close friend) to utilise the ticket, it would be classed as stolen?

The ticket conditions clearly state that it is NOT transferable.

How clearer can it be for you?

As for the ticket checks - all at different times of the day!

Consider it this way; when an inspector finds you with a €1,000+ travel ticket in your pocket that wasn't issued to you, what are they to think as to how you got it? The ticket can't be transferred under any circumstances and LX has kindly pointed this out more than once. There isn't any reason for you to use it if you were to be caught with it so please don't chance it.

The staff can only detain you if they have reason to suspect you are giving them false information. Holding you til they check with someone else somewhere elsewhere seems to `taobh amuigh den dlí' or `ultra vires' for ye latin junckies

    Is the annual ticketholder identifiable?

You can pass around Rambler tickets forever and no-one knows who bought it..

It must be accompanied by the passholder's ID card.

They are entitled to check details offered as the onus is on the passenger to prove their ID. Given that an annual ticket is rather pricy the least you'd expect is for the details of somebody who's using one on the fiddle to be checked.
