Ok so a friend of mine has a problem with a number of corrupt word documents.

    He's getting a Word/document.xml line 2 column error.

I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions as to how these could be recovered?

The documents appear to be only 4-5kb which makes me worry that there might not be anything in the files.

For a docx file that size does seem quite low, you could try some suggestions here but sounds to me like much of the files data is actually missing

Also, make hidden files visible, you might find a bunch of MS Word autosaves in the same folder that could be of use.

Yeah I tried some of the techniques listed and also tried the demo from a professional auto recovery entity (Microsoft Certified Partner) and it says there's no data in the file.
