Unrealistic price for a band?

    Hi,

I am hoping to get a small trad band to play for about an hour and half, just after the meal and before the DJ at 9pm.

I ideally want a band that can play outside as thats where we will be having our meal. Nothing big and showy - almost background type music.

The thing is I only have €300 in the budget for this! Am I being totally unrealistic?? We dont have to have it, but it would be nice if we could get something for that price.

Might get a 2 man band for that , But may be better just going with a solo singer who has a guitar and can sing a few tunes to keep the atmosphere going

Thats exactly what we want, just something to keep everyone going in the gap between food and dancing!

Wheres the best place to look for bands/musicians like this? Do they have website or anything?

    Where in the country?

You might find some good musicians at a session. Try the session.org or the trad music board here.
It isn't alot but you might find someone that will do it.
If it is near Maynooth I know a few that might.

Blessington in Wicklow so not a million miles from Maynooth.

Hopefully we can find something to entertain people for an hour!

What about a piano player/singer? If so, send me a pm:)

    We can work something out.

Theres a good few 1-2 man bands knocking around, the price wouldnt be too far off that or at the least if you ask will they do it for that, they should say yes if they dont have to travel too far.

Thing is, just after the meal, most people get up and walk out for a bit, ladies go upstairs and freshen up, not sure you'll get the desired effect youre looking for. Personally, Ive never seen the "post-meal inbetween meal and main music" act do much for the night, its no harm to have it but gotta question whether its worth it. Maybe have them there when you get to the venue as a precursor to the meal instead. might work better.

Ring the local pub or hotel where you're having it, theyll know someone. Those types of musicians drop cards in to venues in case anyones looking.

I am actually looking for more or less the same thing in Cork but for the arrival drinks. Not having much luck thus far.

Can't help with the trad singers but with regard to the above - I am having a singer called Sean Boland. He is based in Dublin but he travels. He will be singing at our arrival drinks reception. He would be in the style of Frank Sinatra / Michael Buble crooner kind of music. Price is also very reasonable.
