    hi guys,
as mentioned in the title i have a problem with my nephews laptop. it wont reboot the OS system with the hot key function. it has no recovery disc with the system only the hotkey recovery ( as far as i can see ). the boot screen pops up and then it goes to the safe mode screen and when i try to "start windows normally" it just tries to start normally and pops back to the "safe mode" screen:confused:
is there any other way i could over ride this to reset it to factory settings???
    thanks guys in advance!!!!!

Restart Computer and keep pressing F2 and you'll get into the recovery partition.

What happens when you press F2? Is their any clicking noises coming from it?

    Is it windows 7?

i`m sorry, i never mentioned it was xp, 1 GB ram with a 160 hdd and its only a year old. when its turned on it goes straight to the safe mode options screen so when i try to start as normal it goes to boot screen as in msi screen to windows screen with the loading bar and then a blue screen flashes for a fraction of a second and it goes back to safe mode options screen?. thats the best way i can describe it as thats the way it happens in that order. there`s no clicking when i push the power button to turn it on but there is a click when its turned off, just a single click, also it doesn`t shutdown it just turns straight off!! i hope i explained it clearly enough, thanks

Sounds to me whoever put the Windows XP on it deleted the recovery partition. My expierience is MSI provide a OS restore disc so see if that is the case, even to get Windows 7 starter back on

Hi nick, it's originally xp but i found I can get into the bios menu by pressing F11 and in the boot menu I have five options to boot from - USB floppy, USB KEY, USB CD/DVD Rom, USB hardDisk, hard disk : PO WDC WD1.... , Network Device: PCI RO..... I don't know what they're for so I don't want to press any buttons as such??
    Thanks, John

CD/DVD option would be the one if you had reinstall discs, try the harddisk option and see what happens, it can't make things any worse! If you want to turn off but don't have the option you can just hold down the power button.

Where did you get a laptop in the last 12 months with XP on it?

Never came across F11 being the key to access Bios/Menus. Definitely looks like it's just the Operating System thats the cause....I don't know where your're gonna get XP or even starter handy though.

    I'll have a looky around.

You could contact them and see if they'll send you a starter disc.

my nephew got it for xmas 2010 out of argos with " wnidows xp home edition" built in to it. here`s the screen after i press F11 and the boot screen after i enter set up mode.there is no cd drive in it and there is only a hotkey function to reset factory settings as far as i can see with the paper work he got with the system. i`ve reset it before with the F3 button but he brought it around to me the other day with it in this state when i asked him what he did do to it? the reply was as usual " i only turned it on". i`ll try put a quick video of it up if i can, it might give a better idea of it.

You'll never get it right without a Win XP or (maybe) a Windows Starter disc (not sure about needing a license key for this, you probably will).

You could try running an AntiVirus through Ubuntu with a USB stick which may get it going (I'm guessing it's a virus), abit tricky though <-->good guide, you can take anything important on the machine off with ubuntu aswell, easier (sorta) to take Harddrive out stick in one of those Caddys and scan with another windows machine or connect up inside a Tower (no need for caddy depending on their being proper connections inside).

Guide to put OS on a USB

Nothing straight forward unless someone has better ideas....

    Another antivirus guide.

hi guys, just an update on the problem i was having with this netbook. i conceded defeat and brought it down to the shop where they diagnosed it with blue screen and and reinstalled the OS system on it.!!
it seemed to him that someone deleted a file that it needed on start-up and it set my nephew back €30 for his stupidity!! did he learn his lesson ??we`ll have to wait and see
