What ammo is proving sucessfull for ye in .243.........
i have been using 100g federal for both deer and fox (overkill) this year with no problems but read on a us foroum that this gun prefers lighter loads
might change to hornady and get a couple of boxs of 95s and 58s

    any input.....................

Hornady superformance 80grain would be my choice for foxs. Tried to see if they can be got but main supplier isn't making an order till august. That's what my local dealer said i don't know.

My friend has a T£ in .243 and his rifle loves the 80grain federal ammo,

He tried out 95 grain ( I Think that was the weight) hornady sst's and the rifle hated them !

I use Winchester silver tips 55 gram in tika .243 good round for foxes, must give the hornady 58 gram rounds a go.

Would they not be overkill on foxes?

Two people i know use federal 100gr in .243 and rate them highly, same price as 80gr too and cheaper than most of the hornday range. One of them got 80gr and didnt rate them for deer at all. found too many of them running way to far with well placed shots and losing some. I read online the 80gr is designed for foxing as it expands quicker and doesnt penetrate deer enough.

Id stick to the heavy loads for deer but for the summer you could always experiment with the lighter loads for foxes. paulo i think it is uses hornady 95gr ballistic tips if i remember correctly and has good results with them on deer and foxes.

i am using 95gr sst for deer and 58gr V-Max for fox and i find them both great.

the 95gr sst are excellent deer stoppers and i have shot fallow red and the almighty sika stag with them this year with no complaints

Thanks guys, interesting to hear all the negs and positives for the same ammo?

We should put together a chart of what ammo is "accepted" as the best round in the given caliber rifle....... possible group buy/order there....

my belief is that if you can prove the groups on paper one of the other many variables are interfering with your feild shooting (bar stopping power)

I picked up the last 2 boxes of 80g federal fusions today in stakelums so ill see what i can get out of them at 100mtrs & 200 mtrs over the next couple of weeks...........

    cc30....

Considering 55 grams is roughly equal to 1030 grains I'd say they would be overkill on a bloody elephant:eek:

Sorry that's a typo should be grains instead of grams.

Try out some of the norma 75 grain ballistic tips. They are by far the most explosive round I've used on foxes. I haven't used anything heavier than 95 grain so far but i didn't really need to.
