    Thinking a bit into the future here...

    Married, both have PAYE jobs, taxed individually but as a married couple.

    How does having a child/dependent affect tax?

    Not since the eighties. taking away the child tax allowance was one of the effects of the recession back then.

    No effect on tax at all.

    Specifically it doesn't.

    It often does indirectly though as one parent decides to leave work, work part-time or take a career break, which results in the other parent's effective take-home pay going up as the excess tax credits move to them.

    The requirement is being married (jointly assessed), not having kids.

    The links below refer to any sort of relief regarding children. Only the home carers credit needs you to be married. But in the main, there is no extra relief just for being married, working and having children.

    would have thought there was some help considering cost of children.... Oh well childs benefit will have to do although that will probably be gone by next year! :)
