I need to replace hard drive on my netbook,it originally came with W7 starter & I upgraded this to W7 premium. If I reload os using the recovery disks I initally made will it restore to W7 starter or premium. I made the disks after loading premium upgrade.
    Thanks

I would have thought that from a logistics and cost perspective the software would create the discs using the operating system currently installed on the machine.

In any case if you are buying a new blank hard drive and you have the discs use them.

If it they wont install then you probably will need to download the ISO for the original OS from Microsoft install it using the key which came with the machine originally and then upgrade it using the key which came with your upgrade.

I'd imagine your discs should install W7 Premium.

If it doesn't you can download the Premium iso here and install from that using your premium key.

new drive installed today & used recovery disks to restore w7, all seemed to go ok but after final disk (4) was finished was prompted to reboot but was met the message 'no bootable disk', insert boot disk & press any key. If i reconnect dvd drive it starts the whole process again & then tells me windows cannot continue with recovery.
Checked bios prior to using recovery disks & it recognises drive is there etc.
    Any advice appreciated.

Sounds like the recovery disks dont work.

Can you try doing a fresh install of home preium??

Finally got it sorted, apparently there is a fault with hp's recovery disks, had to download another utility & make a boot disk then run recovery disks again & os installed.
