There is an interesting documentary on tonight (well technically Wednesday morning as it starts after midnight):

Who Killed the Electric Car? RTE 1, 12.10-1.50am.

This might be of interest to anyone interested in cars, the environment or coroprate politics.

I saw this a few weeks ago on DVD and it is very interesting. It focuses on events in the US in the 1990's and later. It contains a lot of interesting facts and it covers some of the issues people might wonder (or be worried) about electric cars.

Though the really interesting focus of the documentary is how some companies spent a lot of money developing these cars (when it looked like some laws on emmisions were going to come in) and then went out to destroy the cars and remove them from the market once they had managed to stop those laws from coming in. It is quite bizarre to see how companies went about destroying their own product (though from a profit-making point of view it probably made short-to-medium-term sense for them to do this).

The film does give some hints as to what might be coming in the future though so it is quite hopeful overall. Apparently the documentary makers have a new film just out as well about the comeback of the electric car, The Revenge of the electric car.
