Running twice a day = LSR?

    So was up early this morning and got in 7 miles before work at reasonable pace for me, about 9 minute miles on a rural and not so flat road.

    Thing is, doing Mallow on Monday next so don't want to be overdoing it Saturday or Sunday. Plus want to do a bit of climbing.

    On the other hand, trying to get in 35 or so miles a week as part of buld up to Cork City marathon.

    If I feel I can do another 7 (that happens to be the distance of a road that runs in a circuit around my house) later, should I go for it? Is running twice a day good? If I get in another 7 can I chalk off the lsr this week? Os is it a bad idea, does it lead to injury, or is it of limited benefit for some sports science reason?

    The whole point of the LSR is to grind down your glycogen stores and test out your legs over the long distance. If you split it you rest your legs for the last few miles and replenish your fuel stores so you don't get the same benefits.

    I haven't explained that very well, someone else will explain it better. :)

    Be no harm to do another run tonight but it won't give you the same workout as doing the 16 miles at once.

    Ha!

    I always thought the lsr was almost like a break from proper intense running, and just to "get miles into the legs"! I never really thought it had a function as and of itself.

    I've really gotta read up more on this stuff!

    You can do one allright, it will help youre overall aerobic capacity.

    It wont have the same affect on endurance but it may equivalent to say an 11 mile single run as you wont be fully recovered from run no 1.

    If you do thes econd half of the run slighly faster than normal you will test endurance more.

    Yep the long run have a big function in any plan and you would be suprised how much progress you can make with jsut increasing you long run over time.
