Shallow rooted, water loving trees?

Hello all. Our garden is acidic clay, on top of sheet rock, on a windy site, 8 miles for the sea - a gardener's delight! It is generally very wet (no soakage) but can dry out and crack in a dry summer

Part of the garden has less than 12 inches of soil above the rock and I would like to plant trees here. Can anybody suggest anything suitable?

Alder and sally/willow trees do well around us but they might need more than 12 inches.

We have willow growing like weeds on soggy/rocky patch of our garden. Red flanders variety, with a reddish stem, looks nice in winter.
