Going to Spa for the full Grand prix weekend

    Hi,
Am thinking of going to Spa for the full race weekend at the end of August.
Was going to get the Ferry from Roslaire to Cherbourg, and drive up to Spa on the Thursday. I have booked a B+B about 3 klms from the track, booked this last December so worked out cheap. Also have the ferry booked and deposit paid, only thing I dont have is race weekend tickets, (Am saving at the moment as very expensive for any covered stands).
Anybody any idea when tickets usually sell out?
Has anyone done this grandprix this way before?
    Any advice welcome!
    Regards
    Cashel

i have done it but i am a living up the road about an hour from the track,(maastricht in holland, born and bred in co.clare mind) the tickets should be easy enough to get especially if its the 4 day ticket as usually people only want to go on the race day or sat/sun combined..
if you can get the official tickets from f1 as most include a pit lane walk after first practice so you get to get close to the cars..
we met a good few drivers who were more than happy to talk and sign autographs.. and there is great craic to be had in the evening time in the local bars as most people there are petrol heads...
and with your b&b being so close i would advise walking on race day as it can take a while to get there when its busy..

    Thanks for the reply eurofoxy,
Won't make the pit lane walk unfortunatly as the ferry is on Wednesday night arriving on Thursday morning in France, so a full day of driving ahead!

Aww would so love to go again this year. Stayed in a hotel in Brussels last year, rented a car and just drove to and from the track. Brilliant experience! We found parking very easy (everyone seemed to be renting out their gardens) what I would not advise is too pre book parking with bookf1.com- their field for parking was about a mile uphill walk from the track.
We arrived on the first day and there was a field where you can just pay about 10e for the day which is a field just at the track gates. :D

Absolutely my favourite circuit. Won't ever forget Hammers and Raikkonen in 2008.

    Did it years ago

Coach from London, ferry across and stayed in Brussels, all done through a tour company. Same thing back again
Cheaper to DIY but it suited me

I realy enjoyed Friday as the track was not crowded and I walked all around it to see different viewing points
Those Forti cars will be sliding all over the place when they came out of the corners and tried to put down the power

And you'd see the driving styles, Jean Alesi throwing the car about and giving it everything, love it :)

Got an autograph from Jenson Button, it was his rookie year. Very nice person

I didn't go to the track on Saturday, spent the day around Brussels

When they say the weather is changeable they aren't lying.
Torrential rain one minute and twenty minutes later the sun blazing.

For the race I sold my general entry ticket off to a tout and bought a grandstand ticket for a small bit more, the ticket offices still had tickets available on raceday

Looking back I wish I had a small radio so I could check the commentary now and again.

I went to Spa in 2010 but took a flight from Dublin to Brussels, two trains then a bus, I was staying in the Francorchamps village. I stayed in a hotel called Francorchamps Racing Hotel, it was about a 3 minute walk from the circuit but I wouldn't stay there again, it was awful.

Don't quote me on this but I don't think Spa has sold out completely for a few years, although your choice of tickets will reduce dramatically the closer it gets to the race date. I'd say almost all the grandstands will be sold out by the summer, if not earlier.

The organisers had an early bird discount where the tickets were at their cheapest if you bought them last October. I know the discount worked in stages, and after a certain date the discount was reduced, and they keep doing that until there's no discount and the prices usually stay the same until the race.

I got my tickets from http://www.spagrandprix.com/ and I just checked, they've a 5% discount until the end of May. Bear in mind the discount was 20% a few months ago.

It's a great track, and you simply won't believe how steep Eau Rouge is. It's like the side of a mountain. I'd advise bringing plenty of clothes. On race day in 2010, I was on the grandstand on Eau Rouge and had 4 or 5 layers on and was still freezing. Although down at the track level, it was a bit warmer.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I might have a 3 day grandstand ticket for sale for this. Basically I bought the ticket for myself and it's looking like I might not be able to go now.

I also booked a return flight from Dublin to Brussels and it might be possible to change the name and put someone else on it.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.
