Selling to trade?

I'm selling both cars and a buyer wants to take the logbook of one as he says he's in the trade. I want to send it to Shannon so as not to get stung with tolls and crap. Can I legitimately give it to him or should I go through the proper channels?

No point in giving yourself possible hassle in the future. Send it to Shannon yourself.

let him have the logbook as he'll need that to sell on the car, but insist he signes this and you send it in and keep a copy for yourself.

    google RF105 form OP

Change in Ownership for post 1993 vehicles:

    * If sold to a motor dealer, give your dealer the vehicle licensing certificate or registration certificate and complete form RF105, supplied by your dealer.

    http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/PublicationsDocuments/FileDownLoad,493,en.pdf

keep 2 copies and send off another copy to shannon to cover yourself if you want.
If the dealer buying your car is a proper dealer, he should be suppling the RF105 when he pays you and when your doing the paperwork - otherwise, he's trying to dodge revenue...(possibly) ;)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

On your cars it will make no difference at all to their value if another owner is added to the list. Do not agree to give the buyer the VLC.

OP, IT's AOK to give the dealer the logbook as long as the RF105 is complete and lodged, then you'll be in the clear as you'll have a copy (keep a copy)

this is actually the right and proper LEGAL procedure when selling to a dealer/motortrader, and the other two posts saying otherwise are totally incorrect.

Stick to the law, and not erronious posts here.

Ok, I gave him the option of completing RF105. If he doesn't go for it I won't give him the VRC.

bang on, and if he's a proper dealer as he says he is, he'll be ok with that, if not, well, he's not a proper dealer, could be driving it round for a good while himself racking up toll's and parking tickets and speeding ticks and all of them will land in your letterbox!
