HTC Sensation XE

I'm having awful problems with my HTC Desire. When I try to load new apps on it I keep getting out of space messages so I'm constantly swapping apps etc, it's really starting to bug me. I can do 1 of 2 things.

    1) Root my Desire and put the Supernova rom on it.
    2) Pick up a Sensation XE.

I have rooted my Desire already but haven't installed a ROM because I'm a bit unsure on how to do it. Also I think my Desire volume button might be broken because when I try the Volume Down/Power On combination to boot into Recovery it just boots as normal.

Has anyone that has upgraded from a Desire to Sensation XE noticed the same app limitation? Will I get to the stage where I'll install 10 or 11 apps and run out of space again?

If you decide to replace it why not wait a month and get a HTC OneX instead of a sensation XE ?

I also get the same issue with the volume down button and booting on Desire - running 2.3.3. I have found if you select restart and hold the volume down button it works

I am not rooted but may do it soon as space issue driving me crazy (have a look here and maybe you can ask a few questions - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=77488621#post77488621)

I have been looking at Sensation too but really think I will try to Root and install Supernova and if I am still unhappy I will hold out and go for the new HTC One range as soon as they come out. The Sensation is getting on in age now and although it will get ICS I think I would prefer an up to date model

Was looking at that phone but don't like the idea of having no external battery and no micro sd slot. Looks great otherwise though.

Just trtied the restart/volume down and that works, thanks. I'll see whether installing Supernova improves the Desire for me and then decide what to do from there. I know the Sensation XE is old but I like the idea of having a changeable battery and micro sd slot which the One series won't have.

I hear you on the sd but my biggest pet hate of my Desire is that if I drop it, it falls to pieces. Unibody design removes that issue. Don't care that I can't remove the battery.

That happened to me for the first time running for the bus this morning! If I hadn't been looking for the back and the battery I would have made the bus in time. :-)

Lack of swappable battery and SD card seems to be the way everything is going – a la iPhone

I don’t see the issue as the One X comes with 32BG and I really would find it hard to believe any normal user will ever fill that. I have 4GB in Desire at the moment and its loads. Only thing I use it for is photos and video as all music streamed fro Google Music. Even if you did put on a lot of music you could still get by with the 32GB.
What would you see as draw backs on not having swappable battery and SD card?

Let us know how the Supernova install goes

Also would be keen to know the steps you followed to Root

I don't use a phone case but I'm VERY careful with it. I'd be more likely to drop my kid :-)

Its the lack of sd card more than anything. I store a lot of video and music on it for travelling. Haven't tried Google music yet, didn't realise how easy it was to sign up until I just looked into it. I have the instructions I use for routing at home, will pm the site to you later.

I dropped my Desire the other day and it wont vibrate any more. Also resets occasionally on me. So I'm probably gonna get this phone through my insurance. Cant really afford to wait for the One.

My desire is rooted with the cm7 mod and S2EXT installed so its getting me by until I get my new phone. The space issue on desires is shocking. Rooting is essential otherwise the phone is useless.

    Managing with mine without rooting:)

Just wondering if anyone has gotten the official ICS update through 02 yet for their Sensation XE?

Updates are being rolled out according to 02:

Yes sorry for the delay, but it does undergo rigorous testing before it can be released. It should be in the next 5 weeks it is rolled out as per this thread, further updates will be posted here too: http://community.o2online.ie/t5/General/Handsets-Coming-Soon-to-O2/m-p/466489/highlight/false#M24966

No way I am waiting 5 weeks for the update. Complete joke it could take that long.

Getting the phone on Monday and will probably wait a week at most for the official update. If it has not come by then, I will probably go down the ROM route which I would prefer not to do.

Got the ICS update for the Sensation XE today - Official 02 update.

Just one issue and its with the HTC Clock and weather widgets.

For whatever reason, I cannot set my location in the accuweather settings. It only gives 3 Irish locations to pick from; Dublin, Cork and Derry. If my pick 'set to my current location', it just sets it to my county (Meath) and results in completely inaccurate results.

Anyone have any idea on how to fix this - I am trying to set it to Drogheda...
