St Patricks Day 2012

A few of my friends and I are heading to Limerick for St Patricks Day, seems to be a good choice as I heard the parade was very good and draws a big crowd. Just wondering where the best place to watch the rugby would be? Somewhere that wouldn't be absolutely wedged or too far out of the way. Also wondering where would be a good spot to get some mid-evening grub after the match... any help greatly appreciated!

Maybe try Dolan's. I can't imagine it would be jammers and they also do good grub.

Locke Bar? I had a good meal there last year, and it always has the rugby on.

Edited to add: not sure what time they do food to.

    Good call on Dolans.

Avoid the area around the Icon/Nancy's. It will be a nightmare.

Bobby Byrne's on O'Connell Avenue would have the match on, and serve food until about half 8. Its a decent spot to watch sport, and the food is good.

I would recommend Peter clohesseys pub on Howleys Quay, its the main rugby pub in the city, they also do food there.

Funny you mention your location as rip-off republic. The above bar is the perfect example of this.

€5 for a bottle of bud. No thanks.

Had the ol live webcast of the parade playing courtesy of 95fm (****e quality and it cut out before the parade was over) playing in the background today.

Some odd stuff at the parade this year, Honestly its gone to shhi1t.

I spotted a truck carrying a Skip and advertising skips,
Seriously somebody thought it was a good idea for St. Patricks Day.
I spotted a truck carrying another truck.
I spotted a truck carrying a washing machine
I saw lots of cars and trucks advertising their business
I saw a few different times people pushing their kids in buggys down the street
    as part of the parade.

What happened to the goold ol days of nice floats and people getting creative. It was more or less a stream of vehicles with advertisements on them.

It is embarrassing and the piles of rubbish covering the length of O'Connell Street afterwards is nothing short of a disgrace. National pride my arse.

Ah I thought the parade was good this year.Though I do agree it lacked creativity. There was one school which had some pretty cool costumes.

My favourite were the Latvian dancers, they were wicked. It was nice to see their traditional costumes and dancing, and the male dancers were pretty hot!

What was with the car that just had a globe stuck on the bonnet??

We had them once at least around St Patrick's Day (in 2010) courtesy of the National Lottery.

It wasn't the worst this year, it could always be better. At least the rain held off, that would have sucked. I want to know about the freaky depressed Russian bear and the cardboard sign on the front of a car that said "Russian House", do Russian people live in cars *scratches head*

What they do need though is more speakers along the street as if you aren't outside Penneys you don't hear a thing.

2/3 the way through my kids asked could they go home and I was only to happy to grant their request. Trucks and jeeps went down O`Connell St, that had nothing festive on them, just to advertise there businesses.
One girl went down in a jeep and not even a green ribbon hanging out of it.
Look at me everybody, daddy bought me a jeep.
The foreign nationals went out of there way to help celebrate Paddys day.
If it were not for the foreign nationals, it would have looked like a
normal Saturday afternoon on O`Connell St.:(
