    Hi all,

Just moved into this house and the previous occupier had a sky dish left, it's still fitted into the wall and it has a cable running into the living room.

If the dish still pointing to the sky satellite, can I simply buy a receiver to some free channels? If so, where should I go to buy the receiver?

Also anyone know which satellite the sky dish is pointing to, just want to get some idea what free channels I might get.

    Many Thanks

    IF the dish was used for a Sky connection then you should be able to recieve the channels listed here;
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055520627

You could buy a 2nd hand sky box, there are usually a few on Adverts.ie.
Or you could buy a generic digital box, but this will mean that you have to manually tune in channels that get moved around.
Or you could buy a freesat box, can be bought from Argos in the North (or get a friend in the UK to buy one and send it over. The freesat box will automatically retune channels that move frequency and will have the 7-day EPG (program guide).

You can also get Freesat boxes on Ebay or Amazon.co.uk. I have one and it's great, you can get ones with PVR.

Thanks a lot guys, should I go for a Sky, Sky+ or a Sky HD box, it's so confusing to me.

If you just want to use it for fta DON'T GET A HD BOX!! The EPG is stuck onto the Irish version and a load of channels aren't available, they have to be watched through other channels on the box which is a pain.
Sky+ won't work anyway without a subscription to Sky.

Here's the type of box you want if it's a cheap Skybox you're looking for.

Hi someone might be able to help me here, we have sky installed in the house and have the red-eye gismo to enable us to view it in other rooms. He have been given a Sky HD (recordable) box which works fine on the main TV but will not work through the red eye in the other rooms. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated.

The SkyLink magic eye only provides the remote control facility. The cable "lets you view in other rooms". In other words, what you call the "red eye" is not needed for viewing.

(BTW this question has nothing to do with the subject under discussion. You have hijacked an irrelevant thread.)

Sorry but new to this - just done a search for Sky and this seemed the most relevant,

Any ideas why the HD box works perfectly in the sitting room but wont work on the other tvs in the bedrooms, its as if the signal from the HD box is not going to the splitter box n the attic to the other rooms but works perfectly on the original Sky box

Thanks everyone, the TV in the living room is working fine now! :D

I'm thinking to buy another sky box for a bedroom, but currently only one cable connected to the sky dish, how can I lead another cable from the sky dish? Will that be very difficult?

Get a quad lnb and swap it with the single lnb on the dish,if it's an older dish you'll need an adaptor for the lnb (there might be on already in place).Quads can be picked up online pretty cheap.
