    Hi all

I have a 01 laguna I picked up around 6 months ago, it's great, seriously comfy and haven't had to put a penny into it other than a good service.

I'm thinking about selling it on as I'd like an automatic and something with cruise control. Can anyone suggest a reliable sub €2k Motor that ticks te boxes? Doesn't have to be a link but just something I can watch out for. Or should I stick to what I have given it has a decent nct?

Reliability would be the biggest factor, I dont really want to buy a money pit.

I'm not 100% that these have cruise control but they are well worth considering......

You'd get a nice Opel Omega 2.2 for less than half your budget. All extras inc. heated leather, xenons, cruise, dual zone aircon, alloys etc.

I definitely like te maxima, have heard great things about them. If I could find a clean one with decent nct I'd definitely have a good look. The first one might be worth a call.

Are the omegas reliable? I don't know much about them but looks like a comfy motor

Yes Maxima is a good choice and I would say the best for spec at that budget, try to get one with leather for that extra bit of comfort, worth taking your time picking one as there's plenty of them around.

Another suggestion is Lexus IS200, not the most fuel efficient 2 litre automatic around but reliable and comfortable.

    Are the omegas reliable?

Generally, yes. Need the rocker cover gaskets done, cam sensors can go( both relatively simple/cheap to fix)

    Saab 95/93?

There is loads of cars to choose one. Not many people want a high displacement petrol engine these days.

Which means great bargains for those that don't care about high motor tax.

I'd avoid the Saab 95 petrol unless it could be proven that there weren't any impending sump issues.

I've noticed a lot if cheap saabs coming up lately, I wonder if it's all related to the recent closure or are they a bit dodgy around the 10 year mark.

Are the citreon c5 any good in the 2.0 petrol guise? The diesel version seem to be fairly highly thought of in the bangernomics forum

I would go for a japanese car with this kind of budget for reliability. Maxima is one of the best option I think. Prepare yourself for dreadful steering lock in Maxima though.

Not at all what I was going to suggest but I put the wrong info in to the search and out poped this. Whats the chances. Bit too rich though. Needs to be closer to a grand ;)

Looks like I'd fit a small army in there!! Shame theres no NCT, I use the car as a daily runaround with the kids, would ideally like some test. Might have a look for a nice merc though, I was expecting a bigger engine
