-Recently discovered a bit of oil mayonnaise in the air filter of my '99 VW polo 1.4 8v
-The oil consumption had also increased to an insane level approx 1ltr/1000 miles!!!!!
-Also it is stalling at traffic lights when cold (? vacuum leak?)

Been reading up and it looks like the PCV valve may be buggered,

Does this sound like sound reasoning?

How hard is it to replace (I'm not bad with mechanics, I've replaced an engine or two but only on pre '80's cars)
Anyone got any recommendations for independent VW garages in the Dublin Wicklow region,

Breather pipe blocked forcing oil into the filter? Also those VW engines are notorious for burning oil.....

Isn't the PCV valve inline with the crank breather and thus suspect?
I'm just trying to get it straight in my head, when my gf gets home I'll have a good gawk at it proper,

Is it really normal for them to burn that much oil?!
