Sony Vaio Base Plastics - Anything Alternative/cheaper?

    Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio, that the base corner of it has smashed off. It wouldn't be a problem, but it's the same corner that the DC socket is on, so plugging it in and out, loosened it enough to the point that there is now no connection.

I am now looking at any alternatives (Preferably one tried and trusted), to somehow support the area that has smashed off.

The only place i can find a base is HERE (None in stock for a long time now), but even if there were any in stock £115 is WAY too much.

So, i'm thinking of taking off the base, and somehow trying to "sculpt" Some sort of material around it, or is there any thing anyone has tried in a similar situation, and it worked?

Or does anyone know of somewhere i may have missed, where this base, or at least the cover of the DC socket, can be purchased for a somewhat decent price?

Ebay is usually the place for stuff like this.

May work, I can't be sure without detailed item parts.

    May work.

http://www.laptoppartsexpert.com/c-120846-sony-vaio-vpc-y-replacement-parts-accessories.html may have what your after, I can't go any further into the site without exact model number. I've never used the site but it's ratings are good.

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-sony-vaio-vgn-s360p-replace-broken-power-jack/ decent guide, most models are probably the same.

Ask Declan about getting it looked at and how much it would cost.

Thanks a million for all that, unfortunately, i didn't properly explain what was wrong.. :o Sorry.

What has happened, is, the side has been smashed off, someone tried to rob it from a backpack while it was on, and it fell out. :(

Sorry for the bad pics, they're the best that i took.

So now i want to get a "brace" or something to hold it on/together. I'm not too worried about the top side, even though it looks worse in the picture, the bottom side, and back, are more important, as they hold the DC connection in.
Unfortunately with this model, the whole base would have to be replaced, and £115 is way too much.

Thanks again, i will look on laptoppartsexpert, and i will ask Declan, but i don't hold too much hope for that. I don't really think PCWorld supply those parts..

They won't. If they'll fix it it'd be sent to Knowhow warehouse in England.
