Hi I'm just wondering does anyone know of any friends or colleagues who have gotten teaching jobs in Canada, US, UK, New Zealand, Oz etc. without having their DIP year completed here? I'll be finished the Hibernia course in July next year and would like to know if theres anywhere I could start teaching in? or will i have to do my DIP year first...

AFAIK you can complete NQT year in UK(similar to dip).
Oz required a 4 year course to have been completed so maybe they would accept your original degree plus Post Grad as 4 years...

I think now you have to do your dip in the country you did your qualification in.

I got this email back from the Irish Teaching Council so at least I know they would accept a dip year in England...

"If you are planning on moving to the UK and you can secure a position in which you can complete the Induction process in England this would be accepted in lieu of completing probation here in Ireland providing that you have a formal statement from the Principal/Board of the school and the Local Borough/Council. This probation process must meet the requirements of “ The Education (Induction Arrangements for School Teachers) (Consolidation) (England) Regulations 2001”.

In meeting these regulations the induction period must be:

    • At least one year in duration

    • Be carried out by an “appropriate body”

    • Be served in a relevant school in England

    • Be supervised by the head teacher of that school

    • Be derived from a recommendation from the head teacher to the appropriate body that the professional standards for teachers have been met

    • Conclude with certification from the appropriate body that the professional standards for teachers have been met.

Did any of you end up travelling to England after you finished your courses? I am finishing college in July and it is something I am seriously considering. There seems to be no jobs and the outlook is bleek at the moment...

    Would love to hear back,

    E
