I would like to put timber flooring in my hall right up to the front door. But I've seen and heard that the timber around the front door eventually gets wet, shrinks and starts to lift. I guess the water comes from shoes and rain.

Where I saw it happen is because the door wasn't fitted correctly. But could this happen normally?
