I was talking with some friends about this and some of our favourite drinks are beer.
Where other people would love to have a can of coke or a cup of tea I would love to have a non alcoholic beer instead like a nice bottle of Paulaner or similar.

The question we came to was this, if other people are allowed to have a can of coke or orange etc in the work place is it acceptable to a have a bottle of non alcoholic beer?

After all it is just a cold beverage like any other so what's the difference?
I know perception would be a big thing, but I would like to get AH view on this.

    No difference whatsoever.

It would be the same as bringing in a can of Cidona, or a bottle of Shloer. (Magners, and wine, but alcohol free)

Anyone that frowns on you for bringing in a cold drink (which is a cold soft drink) needs to get over themselves imo.

I don't see why it would be a problem other than you'd have to go around explaining that it's non alcoholic or else people will think you're a lush, HR will probably call you in for an intervention etc etc.
For me it wouldn't be worth it.

I don't see the problem with normal beer for lunch but then again I don't live in a country with a ****ed-up attitude to alcohol any more.

it'd be worth it just to get called into the office, and bring the beer in with you :D

That's true!! Our HR manager is a joke, she's so uptight. I'd nearly do it for the craic :D

Would you smell like beer for the rest of the day though? just wondering, not too well up on the non-alcoholic stuff.

If you're "customer facing" having a whiff of beer off you probably isn't ideal.

being uptight is a prequisite for working HR in fairness.

It would still smell like beer yes, but I'm not talking about cracking open a 6pack and drinking the whole lot.
More like one beer instead of a cola.

It would probably be a problem if your job was customer facing granted, especially from a perception view of customers/clients.
However if you are solely in a back office or not dealing with customers should it be an issue?

    Its gin or nothing.

You need something to dull the pain

Probably not tbh, but logic and the workplace diverge on a regular basis.

    Eeww alcohol free beer...

Like going down on your sister,

Tastes the same but you just know its wrong. :D

There is nothing wrong as it is alcohol free but I doubt any manager or boss would allow it. It doesn't look great.

As long as you don't have to interact with customers face to face I wouldn't see a problem with it. Wouldn't want a customer to get the wrong idea. In office or such then work away.

I've always wondered what the reaction of a garda would be if I was stopped with an open non-alcoholic beer in the car?

like a nice bottle of Paulaner or similar.
Erdinger non alcoholic is lovely, I find Paulaner a bit heavy to drink on it's own.

Non alcoholic beer isn't even non alcoholic, it just has very very very very little alcohol in it.

On a technical note all alcohol free beer has a very small percentage of alcohol, usually around 0.5%.

Although a tiny percentage you would still technically be drinking alcohol at work.

    Step 1,
    bring in non Alcho beer

    step 2.
once its accepted, empty and fill with regular beer

    Step 3

    Step 4
