Handball alleys in the city?

    Bogger question, I know. :D

Are there any open, outdoor, public handball alleys left in town? South side-ish in particular?

I was bored the other day, and was trying to think of somewhere to smack a tennis ball against a wall with a hurl or a racket and just came up blank. Any suggestions?

On the northside there's one in Halston Street next to the old special criminal court.

Open to the public and all?

Yeah, it's open to the public.

Dublin council did it up a few years ago, put a perspex back wall in.

Used to be a fairly rough spot but there is a kids playground beside it now.

They also got rid of one of the two courts when they carried out that work.

Magic, I might go exploring in that direction so. Any other suggestions?

    Right beside Croke Park

You can get there there through the maze of Ballybough back streets but easiest to get on Clonliffe Rd and then get there

    Popular facility
It's used most nights, you can't just show up with your hurl to mess around

But handball will boost your fitness for any sport

Another one mentioned here although I don't know if it's still in use.

No longer in use, and entirely blocked off I'm afraid

Had a look at this one today, it's nicely set up, thanks very much. :)

Do you ever see anybody in at the alley? I'm only looking to mess about, I'd hate to put somebody off actually playing handball.

My Dads family are from around that area so I can remember when I was passing there as a kid you'd often see men playing a game or two. I have no idea now if the alley is in regular use.
