Using Sky HD box after cancelling

Im thinking of cancelling sky, but not sure how I can use the box to recieve freeview.
I pulled the card, and switched it off to see what channels would be available after I cancel, but instead of resetting 101 to BBC etc, it remained as RTE, unlike my old sky box that I now use in another room.
Also does anyone know if I can still record with it??

The PVR part of the software requires an active Sky Digital subscription to use. There's no technical reason why this should be the case, of course, but it serves to act as a discouragement for Sky+ owners to cancel their subscriptions.

You can of course replace the Sky Digibox with a third-party receiver with PVR functionality that has no such limitation on it.

No you can't, thanks to Sky. Also any pay recordings you have will stop working also so even things already recorded will not play back.

One of the benefits of a "free box" YOU own thanks to $ky
