Heat Transfer Help

    Hi all,

Unfortunately the engineer in work is away on holidays and for some reason my boss has turned to me to work out the heat transfer from a hot source (a pipe) to a cold source (a flat plate), more details of the set-up below. Could anyone point me in the right direction, explain to me how to do it and most importantly what equations I need to use.

    The set-up is as follows:

We have an electric heater heating up a fluid in a pipe which is flowing to a condenser attached to a flat plate. The plate is starting out as a cold source and we are hoping to heat it up. I am assuming that the the pipe is insulated from the heater to the condenser.

How do I work out the heat transfer from the pipe to the condenser / plate and what equations do I use?

I know the following information (and can probably find out anything else I may need but don't have):
    1. power provided to the heater
    2. temperature of the fluid in the pipe at the heater, inlet and outlet of the condenser
    3. Properties of fluid within the pipe (do I need to know the flow rate? I can find it out if I need to).
    4. Material / properties of the pipe
    5. Material / properties of the condenser
    6. Material / properties of the plate

I am also wondering what effect air flow will have over the flat plate.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me in advance.

    Marc
