Does anybody have any advice on playing under pressure in hurling and to just play your normal game?

IMVHO the only way to deal with pressure is experience, some people are naturally able to deal with it, others completely wilt under it, others experience it and then come out the other side, the whole "you have to lose 1 to win 1" comes from dealing with the big day pressure. Every sport would be the same, how many snooker players do you see missing relatively easy (for them) shots just cause it's the World Championships, how many missed kicks at goal cause it's a HEC Final (*ahem* RoG), how many missed penalties cause it's a play off.

If you want to teach players how to deal with it I guess 1 course of action would be to invite someone who has dealt with it in the past to try to explain it to the team.

Pressure comes from within, so the simple answer would be to not let yourself stop to think about things, keep a clear mind and you're concentration at 100%.

Depends very much on your personality. Personally I always played better in intercounty matches and county finals etc. than ordinary games.

The bigger the hype, coverage in newspapers, big crowd turning up etc. the more I enjoyed it. For a big game my thoughts would be dominated by the game for the whole week coming into the fixture, and in this time I would be imagining scenarios which may occur in the game, which I subsequently found out is a popular motivation tool used today.

On the other hand, I had a friend and club mate who also played intercounty who was the polar opposite. He hated the pressure of the big day and the weight of expectation. The trick for him was to avoid newspapers, radio and even encounters with friends and neighbours where the game would be mentioned.
